Female Tech Applicants Increase by 26% in 4 Days

Overview

This case study documents a beta test conducted to assess the traction achievable within a limited timeframe and budget. The primary objective was to gauge the effectiveness of strategies aimed at diversifying the candidate pool, particularly focusing on women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities in the tech sector. The test was initiated just before the launch of several open roles, necessitating swift yet impactful measures to attract a more diverse range of applicants.

The Challenge

The company faced significant challenges regarding demographic diversity, notably lacking representation of women, people of color, and individuals with disabilities. Addressing this gap required a multifaceted approach, including enhancing employer branding efforts, refining recruitment strategies, and fostering a more inclusive environment for potential candidates.

The Solution

The Rise Journey implemented a comprehensive strategy to diversify its candidate pool. They enhanced employer branding by updating online profiles with inclusive messaging and utilized guerrilla marketing tactics, leveraging social media platforms to amplify recruitment efforts despite budget constraints. Additionally, tailored messaging emphasized the company's commitment to diversity, resonating with potential candidates from underrepresented groups.

The Result

The strategies led to notable increases in diversifying the candidate pool: a 26.4% rise in female tech applicants and a substantial 37.5% increase in Black and African American tech applicants in just four days. Additionally, there was increased interest from Latinx individuals and candidates who chose not to disclose their race. These outcomes demonstrate the effectiveness of targeted recruitment and transparent communication in attracting underrepresented groups. This case study underscores the significance of proactive diversity initiatives in creating an inclusive workplace environment.
