The short answer: Many people are burned out at work.

Burnout is all too real--and is a personal topic to me. I feel the pressure living with family, dealing with a COVID world, and working 9-to-5 and 5-to-9 at the same time. I’ve watched many powerful women in my life go through dramatic work related burnout:

  • My grandmother in her role as a watercolor artist.

  • My mother in her role as a college professor.

  • My business partner while she juggled two jobs.

Their organizations did not support them to be aware, proactively act, or be reactive when in the throws of burnout.  Earlier this year we ran a quiz “Press pause. Are you burned out at work? Nine questions to check in with yourself about life, work, and the new normal” and the results are in!

Overall, 51.9% of respondents said their organization is aware of burnout but only 30.8% are proactive in actually addressing it. That’s a wide opportunity gap for employers to support their employees, and for organizations to bring awareness into the workplace. With 17% respondents sharing that they face major burnout concerns, it’s important to consider the costly risks of ignoring this issue: Retention and Productivity.
