Meet Mimi Gonzalez, MSOP

Speaker

Mimi Gonzalez (she/her/hers) identifies as an Afro-Latina Storyteller and Community Organizer from Hartford, CT, USA. She is an Organizational Development Specialist, communications consultant, keynote speaker and dynamic facilitator. She is a firm believer that incredible things happen when community organizing and Organizational Development intersect. Storytelling is foundational to Mimi’s work as stories impact how we are socialized and will continue to impact generations to come. She is in the work she’s in today because it’s long overdue for a new story. A new reality with an accurate narrative. A reality centered in liberation for oppressed voices, and centered in history that isn’t censored.

Mimi is the Founder of GriefSense where she serves as a Grief Communications Strategist for people of color who have experienced loss or want to learn how to prepare for and navigate the reality of death and dying. She is also a 3x alumna from the University of Hartford receiving her Associates in ‘15, her Bachelors in Psychology and Gender Studies in ‘17, and her Masters in Organizational Psychology in ‘18. She now sits on the Board of Hillyer College of University of Hartford and also sits on their Racial Equity Taskforce. She was notified of her selection into the Board after receiving Hillyer College’s Outstanding Young Alumnus Award for her community activism and social justice work. In 2021, Mimi received her professional certificate of Diversity Equity & Inclusion in the Workplace from the University of South Florida MUMA College of Business. She is also a Board member of CT Equity Now, a non-profit and state-wide coalition focused on transformational justice and anti-oppression in the state of Connecticut. One of Mimi’s proudest moments is becoming a member of the Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corps in 2019. Approaching program completion, she was invited to be a keynote speaker at the Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago as well as a panelist with President Obama & actress Yara Shahidi.

Mimi’s mission is simple: to remove barriers by connecting the worlds of business, culture, social justice, and the creative arts.

For fun, you can find Mimi doing her three favorite things: 1) creative producing films 2) hosting CT Peace Fest, her social justice music & arts festival, or 3) coaching soccer for Special Olympics.
